Flower Drying Options
There are a number of options for drying flowers and foliage such as air drying. However, the results are often disappointing and some flowers are just not suitable for air drying. The use of MoistureSorb® on the other hand results in exhilarating dried flowers and is well worth the effort.
The Solution
The MoistureSorb® Natural Flower Drying Desiccant Powder was specially developed to dry flowers with exhilarating results. MoistureSorb® is particularly effective for flowers that are not prone to air drying with good results.
How MoistureSorb® Works
MoistureSorb® is very effective and efficient at adsorbing moisture from flowers. MoistureSorb® is negatively charged whereas moisture rides on positively charged particles. As a result, MoistureSorb® draws in moisture like a strong magnet and traps it. The molecular structure of MoistureSorb® is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives MoistureSorb® an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables MoistureSorb® to adsorb phenomenal amounts of moisture from flowera and work for months.
Environmentally Friendly
MoistureSorb® is natural, recyclable, non-toxic, safe, non-hazardous, non-scented, and non-caustic. It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for drying flowers of all types. MoistureSorb® does not contain chemical additives and is beneficial for those suffering from chemical sensitivity.
Applications
MoistureSorb® can be used to dry most types of flowers. In addition, flowers that are not suitable for air drying could be dried well with MoistureSorb® and the results could be exhilarating.
The following flowers, which are not generally well suited for air drying, could be dried effectively with MoistureSorb® for superior preservation:
- Ajuga
- Anemones
- Azaleas
- Daisies
- Dogwood
- Freesia
- Grape Hyacinths
- Lily of the Valle
- Marigolds
- Mimosa
- Orchids
- Pansies
- Passion flowers
- Peonies
- Primroses
- Roses
- Snapdragons
- Stokesias
- Zinnias
- …and many others
Directions
For best results, spread out MoistureSorb® it in a clean microwavable container and heat for 2- 4 minutes with turning in a microwave or until dry before using. Avoid using a plastic container because it could melt from the heated powder. Pour about an inch of cool MoistureSorb® powder on the bottom of an airtight container. In addition, make little mounds of MoistureSorb® to support all the flowers you will place in the container so that they will not dry flat.
Ensure that the flowers you will treat have just opened and do not have dew or moisture on them and are as flawless as possible. The flower stems should be trimmed to 1" - 1 1/2" (unless they will be used for gluing) and wired before drying them with the MoistureSorb® as they will tend to be more fragile after they have dried.
Place flowers with fewer petals, face down, in the mounds and spoon the MoistureSorb® under each petal without causing excessive weight on the flowers. Flowers with many petals should be placed face up and the inside petals gently coated with MoistureSorb®. Ensure that the flowers are well covered with MoistureSorb® and separated so moisture does not seep from one flower to the next. Seal the container making sure that it is airtight and store.
To test the flowers for dryness, gently feel the petals. They should feel crisp and papery dry. If they still feel soft, continue with the drying process. When the flowers are dry, gently pour the powder from the flowers and pick them up by the stem. Using a dry paint brush, gently brush the powder off the petals back into the container. The dried flowers can be stored in an airtight container and supported with dry builder's sand.
Product Life
The MoistureSorb® Natural Flower Drying Desiccant Powder can be reused many, many times for years. To regenerate, simply heat MoistureSorb® in an oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 3 hours or heat in the microwave for approximately 4 minutes or until dry. This will regenerate Moisturesorb so that it will be ready to be reused. The number of times MoistureSorb® can be reused and its actual life span will depend on the conditions under which it is used.
Disposal
The unused MoistureSorb® Natural Flower Drying Desiccant Powder is non-hazardous and environmentally safe. However, this may change if it is exposed to hazardous or toxic substances. Used MoistureSorb® should be disposed according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.

Reusing and Recycling MoistureSorb® Moisture & Odor Control Products
MoistureSorb® products are unique and superior to other moisture and odor control products on the market. They also have more combined environmental and safety benefits then any other moisture and odor control product.
MoistureSorb® is non-toxic, safe, reusable, recyclable, natural, odorless, non-flammable and non-caustic. MoistureSorb® is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating moisture and a wide variety of odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. It does not contain VOCs, harmful or ozone depleting chemicals and is especially beneficial for those suffering from allergies and chemical sensitivity. No fossil fuels are used in the production of MoistureSorb® moisture and odor control media.
How to Rejuvenate MoistureSorb® Moisture & Odor Control Products
MoistureSorb® pouches, granules and powder may be used repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. To rejuvenate, simply heat in a microwave 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse. When you rejuvenate the pouches in a microwave, it is better to do it in 2 minutes intervals with 180° rotations and to check the pouch to make sure it does not get singed and allow the moisture and odor control media to spill out of the pouch. The pouch could get very hot after 4 minutes in a microwave so please wear oven mittens when removing MoistureSorb® to prevent getting burned. MoistureSorb® granules and powder (without the cotton pouch) can also be rejuvenated in an oven at 425° F (220° C) for about 3-5 hours. Reuse the pouches, granules and powder after they have cooled.
Rejuvenate the MoistureSorb® pouches, granules and powder weekly until a noticeable decrease in moisture and odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them when moisture levels increase or every 3-4 months. There is no set limit to the number of times MoistureSorb® can be rejuvenated and could work for years so it is very cost effective. The actual number of times MoistureSorb® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the moisture and odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace MoistureSorb every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation fails to work.
Rejuvenation Precaution
As a precaution, do not rejuvenate MoistureSorb® in a microwave or oven if it has been exposed to a hazardous substance like formaldehyde or anything you suspect is toxic. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate it outdoors in direct sunlight where there is plenty of ventilation.
How to Recycle MoistureSorb®
The unused MoistureSorb® moisture and odor control media are natural, non-hazardous and environmentally safe. You may remove this material from the pouch and apply the granules and powder to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.
Recycling Precaution
If MoistureSorb® is exposed to hazardous or toxic odors or pollutants, it will be considered as such and should be disposed according to all relevant local, state and federal regulations and not recycled as described above.
