Eliminate Excessive Moisture to Fight Mold, Mildew & Musty Odors
Mold and mildew are fungi that thrive in moist conditions and usually cause the damp, musty odors commonly found in basements, bathrooms, closets and other areas with excess moisture like safes and gun racks. In addition to resulting in unpleasant odors, mold spores will irritate someone with allergies and can result in health problems.
The MoistureSorb® Moisture Absorbent Granules & Powder was specially developed to solve this problem using a unique dual mechanism. Firstly, it absorbs excessive moisture from the air to lower the relative humidity thereby destroying mold and mildew. Secondly, it eliminates musty odors on contact without covering them up with fragrances.
For a breath of fresh air, simply sprinkle MoistureSorb® granules or powder in areas with excessive moisture and smell the difference. It may also be inserted in open containers and placed in the area to be treated. To rejuvenate periodically, simply heat in a microwave for 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse. Replace when rejuvenation does not help. MoistureSorb® can work for years so it is very cost effective.
MoistureSorb® is non-toxic, safe, reusable recyclable, natural, odorless, non-flammable and non-caustic. It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for absorbing moisture and eliminating unpleasant musty odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. MoistureSorb® does not contain VOCs, harmful or ozone depleting chemicals and is especially beneficial for those suffering from allergies and chemical sensitivity. No fossil fuels are used in the production of MoistureSorb® moisture control media.
One of the problems that has plagued home owners is the harmful results of excessive moisture and condensation. This can cause corrosion, mold, mildew, odors, and numerous other problems. The latter can result in damaged goods, lost revenues, and poor reputation.
The MoistureSorb® Moisture Absorbent Granules and Powder were specially developed to protect homes and products by adsorbing moisture during storage and use. MoistureSorb® is particularly effective in controlling moisture levels in low humidity ranges where other desiccants such as silica and alumina gels are less effective. This product will eliminate moisture and odors while preventing condensation, corrosion, mold, and mildew.
How MoistureSorb® Works
MoistureSorb® is very effective and efficient at adsorbing moisture and odors. MoistureSorb® is negatively charged whereas moisture and odoriferous gases ride on positively charged particles. As a result, MoistureSorb® draws in moisture like a strong magnet and traps it. The molecular structure of MoistureSorb® is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives MoistureSorb® an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables MoistureSorb® to adsorb phenomenal amounts of moisture and odors and work for months.
MoistureSorb® is recyclable, non-toxic, safe, non-hazardous, natural, non-scented, and non-caustic . It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating moisture as well as odors without adding pollutants to the air. MoistureSorb® does not contain chemical additives and is beneficial for those suffering from chemical sensitivity.
MoistureSorb® can be used as a desiccant in homes, cars, garages, safes, & gun racks, during storage of products, and in any other application requiring moisture removal.
To use the MoistureSorb® granules, simply place them in the area to be treated and experience the difference.
Rejuvenating, Reusing & Recycling
The MoistureSorb® Moisture & Odor Absorbent Granules and Powder may be reused repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. Rejuvenate the granules and powder weekly until a noticeable decrease in moisture and odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them every 3-4 months or when moisture and odor levels increase. To rejuvenate, simply heat the pouches in a microwave 2-4 minutes, place in direct sunlight for a day or heat in an oven at 425° F (220° C) for about 3-5 hours and reuse.
The number of times MoistureSorb® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the moisture and odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace the pouches every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation eventually fails to work.
As a precaution, do not rejuvenate MoistureSorb® in a microwave or oven if they have been exposed to a hazardous or toxic substance. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate the granules and powder outdoors in direct sunlight where is plenty ventilation.
Unused MoistureSorb® moisture and odor control media or used media that has not been exposed to hazardous substances can be recycled by removing this material from the pouch and applying to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.
The unused MoistureSorb® Moisture Absorbent Granules and Powder is non-hazardous and environmentally safe. However, this may change if it is exposed to hazardous or toxic substances. Used MoistureSorb® should be disposed according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.

How to Rejuvenate MoistureSorb® Moisture & Odor Control Products
MoistureSorb® pouches, granules and powder may be used repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. To rejuvenate, simply heat in a microwave 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse. When you rejuvenate the pouches in a microwave, it is better to do it in 2 minutes intervals with 180° rotations and to check the pouch to make sure it does not get singed and allow the moisture and odor control media to spill out of the pouch. The pouch could get very hot after 4 minutes in a microwave so please wear oven mittens when removing MoistureSorb® to prevent getting burned. MoistureSorb® granules and powder (without the cotton pouch) can also be rejuvenated in an oven at 425O F (220O C) for about 3-5 hours. Reuse the pouches, granules and powder after they have cooled.
Rejuvenate the MoistureSorb® pouches, granules and powder weekly until a noticeable decrease in moisture and odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them when moisture levels increase or every 3-4 months. There is no set limit to the number of times MoistureSorb® can be rejuvenated and could work for years so it is very cost effective. The actual number of times MoistureSorb® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the moisture and odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace MoistureSorb every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation fails to work.
As a precaution, do not rejuvenate MoistureSorb® in a microwave or oven if it has been exposed to a hazardous substance like formaldehyde or anything you suspect is toxic. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate it outdoors in direct sunlight where there is plenty of ventilation.
How to Recycle MoistureSorb®
The unused MoistureSorb® moisture and odor control media are natural, non-hazardous and environmentally safe. You may remove this material from the pouch and apply the granules and powder to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.
If MoistureSorb® is exposed to hazardous or toxic odors or pollutants, it will be considered as such and should be disposed according to all relevant local, state and federal regulations and not recycled as described above.

Past Question and Answers
HERALD: Why would I get either the 1 mm or 4 mm granules? Which will work better for what and when?ANSWER: The smaller granule size does have a larger surface size and therefore greater absorption capacity. On the other hand, the smaller granules pack more densely so it’s harder to pump air or gases through it to filter moisture out of air. So it just depends on your application. In a passive capacity the smaller granules will work better but if you need to filter air, you will need to use the larger size granules to get better results.
GE: After a fresh water leak that flooded my house, one of my closet's concrete floor started emitting a bad odor that caused burning on nose, throat and trachea. I do not know whether the odor is from ammonia, uric acid, formaldehyde, mold or something else. The situation is:
1. The closet is close to a bathroom, which could potentially have ammonia or uric acid pollution if there is sewage seepage under the slab. (I had a plumber test for sewage leaks but the result was negative)
2. The wet carpet was left on the concrete floor to dry when the water restoration company cleared the water and took away the carpet pads; if the carpet contained formaldehyde, it may have been absorbed by the concrete floor.
3. Theoretically the odor may be from mold or mildew, but this is unlikely, because the water restoration company used air blowers to dry the drywall and the wood inside as soon as possible. And I do not see any mold or mildew from visual inspection on the concrete. I am pretty sure that the odor is emitted from the concrete rather than dry walls, etc.
How should I proceed from here to solve this water damage odor problem I'm fighting?ANSWER: Water damage can result in various noxious odors due to a number of reasons, some of which you mentioned above. In general, I think it might be a good idea to first thoroughly dry out the concrete floor and closet and get the odors and chemicals out before putting down the carpet to prevent them getting trapped. Besides using a high powered fan and good ventilation, you can apply an absorbent product like MOISTURESORB moisture and odor absorbing rocks to eliminate the concrete odors and dampness. In addition, you can place a MOISTURESORB reusable dehumidifier and deodorizer bag in the closet to further clear the air of ammonia and formaldehyde gases.
