Effective Odor Control for Dead Animals & Rodents

Small rodents such as mice and rats can easily crawl into wall voids and other small crevices and smell for many weeks if they die and decompose there. This commonly occurs when a poison is used to kill these rodents. Larger animals such as squirrels, raccoons and opossum can enter attics or crawl spaces and may smell for several months if they die there. Other dead animal smells could originate from dead birds in attics, frogs and lost pets such as snakes, gerbils, turtles, dogs and cats. In general, the larger the dead animal, the longer the smell will persist and appropriate odor control treatment will be necessary. If you’re not sure what a dead animal smell like, if you see a large number of maggots or flies near the odor, it is likely to from a decaying animal.

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch was specially developed to absorb, neutralize, and encapsulate putrid decaying dead animal odors on contact instead of merely masking them with fragrances. For a breath of fresh air, simply place Smelleze® pouches in the area to treated and smell the difference. The pouches do not have to be in direct contact with the dead animal. Smelleze® will truly cleanse the air of offensive decomposition odors, complement existing ventilation systems and create a safer more pleasant environment.

Smelleze® is non-toxic, safe, reusable, recyclable, natural, odorless, non-flammable and non-caustic. Smelleze® is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating nasty dead animal decaying odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. It does not contain VOCs, harmful or ozone depleting chemicals and is especially beneficial for those suffering from allergies and chemical sensitivity. No fossil fuels are used in the production of Smelleze® odor control media.

Dead Animal Odor Problems

These unpleasant odors are caused by various animals dying and decaying in or around the home or business. Small rodents such as mice and rats can easily crawl into wall voids and other small crevices and smell for many weeks if they die and decompose there. This commonly occurs when a poison is used to kill these rodents. Larger animals such as squirrels, raccoons and opossum can enter attics or inaccessible crawl spaces and may smell for several months if they die there. Other dead animal smells could originate from dead birds in attics, frogs and lost pets such as snakes, gerbils, turtles, dogs, cats. In general, the larger the dead animal, the longer the smell will persist and appropriate odor control treatment will be necessary. If you’re not sure what a dead animal smell like, if you see a  large number of maggots or flies near the odor, it is likely to from a decaying animal.

Unfortunately, most ventilation systems only recirculate room air and remove large particulate matter such as dirt, dust, and lint. Noxious dead animal odors are left free to recirculate in the air you breathe. Over time, they could increase in concentration and result in serious odor and indoor air pollution problems e.g. sick building syndrome.

The Solution

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch was specially developed to adsorb, neutralize, and encapsulate decaying animal odors on contact. Smelleze® will truly cleanse the air of offensive decomposition odors, complement existing ventilation systems, and create a safer more pleasant environment.

It's No Cover-up

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch is an effective deodorizer that can be used to eliminate putrid odors resulting from decomposition of animals instead of merely masking them with fragrances. Smelleze® is negatively charged whereas rancid dead animal odors ride on positively charged particles. As a result, Smelleze® draws in dead animal odors like a strong magnet. Thereafter, it traps, neutralizes, and encapsulates them without smelly cover-ups. The molecular structure of Smelleze® is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives Smelleze® an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables Smelleze® to absorb phenomenal amounts of dead animal decomposition odors and work for months.

Environmentally Friendly

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch is non-toxic, safe, non-hazardous, natural, non-scented and non-caustic. It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating putrid dead animal odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. Smelleze® does not contain harmful chemicals or ozone depleting materials and is especially beneficial for those suffering from chemical sensitivity.

Applications

Smelleze® can be effectively used to eliminate noxious odors emitted from decaying animals such as mice, rats, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, birds, frogs and lost pets such as snakes, gerbils, turtles, dogs and cats. Smelleze® can be used in all homes, garages, storage areas, businesses and vehicles to effectively eliminate dead animal odors.

Directions

For a breath of fresh air, simply remove the plastic cover, place Smelleze® pouches near the odor, and smell the difference. The pouches do not have to be in direct contact with the dead animal. Use one or more pouches for every 150 square feet. This product will function most efficiently in an enclosed area with good air circulation.  For extra effectiveness, use this product in conjunction with Smelleze® General Purpose Deodorizer Granules which can be sprinkled in crevices, crawl spaces and directly on the dead animals.

Rejuvenating, Reusing & Recycling

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch may be reused repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. Rejuvenate the pouches weekly until a noticeable decrease in odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them every 3-4 months or when odor levels increase. To rejuvenate, simply heat the pouches in a microwave 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse.

The number of times Smelleze® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace the pouches every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation eventually fails to work.

As a precaution, do not rejuvenate the Smelleze® in a microwave if they have been exposed to a hazardous or toxic substance. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate the pouch outdoors in direct sunlight where is plenty of ventilation.

Unused Smelleze® odor control media or used media that has not been exposed to hazardous substances can be recycled by removing this material from the pouch and applying to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.

Product Life

The Smelleze® Dead Animal Deodorizer Pouch should be replaced every 3-4 months or when an increase in odor is detected. The actual life span of this product will depend on the odor concentrations, temperature, humidity, and velocity of air flow it is exposed to.

Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches may be used repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. To rejuvenate, simply heat in a microwave 2-4 minutes or place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse. When you rejuvenate the pouches in a microwave, it is better to do it in 2 minutes intervals with 900 rotations and to check the pouch to make sure it does not get singed and allow the odor control media to spill out of the pouch. The pouch could get very hot after 4 minutes in a microwave so please wear oven mittens when removing them to prevent getting burned. Reuse the pouches after they have cooled.

Rejuvenate the Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches weekly until a noticeable decrease in odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them when odor levels increase or every 3-4 months. There is no set limit to the number of times the Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches can be rejuvenated and could work for years so they very cost effective. The actual number of times Smelleze® can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace the pouches every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation fails to work.

How to Rejuvenate Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches for Maximum Effectiveness

For extra effectiveness, soak the Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouch in a 10% sodium chloride solution (5 oz. table salt/50 oz. water) for 20 hours with occasional agitation, rinse in water and air dry BEFORE heating in a microwave for 2-4 minutes or placing in the sun for a day. This is a little bit more work but will enhance the effectiveness of rejuvenated Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches when reused. Sodium chloride is commonly known as table salt.

Rejuvenation Precaution

As a precaution, do not rejuvenate the Smelleze® Deodorizer Pouches in a microwave if they have been exposed to a hazardous substance like formaldehyde or anything you suspect is toxic. It is better to be safe and to rejuvenate the pouch outdoors in direct sunlight where is plenty of ventilation.
