Even Low Levels of Ammonia can be Unhealthy & Hazardous

Ammonia can be found in many agricultural, commercial and industrial operations. It can be formed aerobically as well as anaerobically by microorganisms, generated in industrial operations as a by-product or from the volatilization of ammonium ions and accidentally released from commercial coolers. Ammonia disperses easily since it is lighter than air and does not settle in low lying areas like hydrogen sulfide and other dense odorous compounds.

Even low levels of ammonia can be unhealthy and hazardous to both humans and animals. It can cause damage to the respiratory tract and depress airway defense mechanisms. Furthermore, experiments have shown that when animals are exposed to ammonia they experience a significant weight gain and feed efficiency loss.

The AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch can be effectively used to absorb, neutralize and encapsulate ammonia for safe disposal. AmmoSorb™ will truly cleanse the air of noxious ammonia odors, complement existing ventilation systems, and create a safer environment.

For a breath of fresh air, simply hang one or more reusable AmmoSorb™ pouches near the odor or place in return air ducts and smell the difference. To rejuvenate periodically, simply place outdoors in direct sunlight for a day and reuse. Replace when rejuvenation does not help. Smelleze™ can work for years so it is very cost effective.

AmmoSorb™ is non-toxic, safe, reusable, recyclable, natural, odorless, non-flammable and non-caustic. AmmoSorb™ is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating dangerous ammonia odors without adding pollutants to the air you breathe. It does not contain VOCs, harmful or ozone depleting chemicals and is especially beneficial for those suffering from allergies and chemical sensitivity. No fossil fuels are used in the production of AmmoSorb™ ammonia odor control media.

Ammonia Odor Problems

Ammonia is commonly found in many agricultural and industrial operations. It can be formed aerobically as well as anaerobically by microorganisms. It can also be generated in industrial operations as a by-product or from the volatilization of ammonium ions. Ammonia disperses easily since it is lighter than air and does not settle in low lying areas like hydrogen sulfide and other dense odorous compounds. This makes ammonia odors more prevalent on-site than off-site.

Unfortunately, most ventilation systems only recirculate room air and remove large particulate matter such as dirt, dust, and lint. Noxious ammonia odors are left free to recirculate in the air you breathe. Over time, they could increase in concentration and result in serious air pollution problems. This could lead to complaints from employees and OSHA fines.

The Solution

The AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch was specially developed to adsorb, neutralize, and encapsulate agricultural and industrial ammonia odors on contact. AmmoSorb™ will truly cleanse the air of noxious ammonia odors and complement existing ventilation systems. This will result in a safer and healthier environment that will be appreciated by all.

It's No Cover-up

The AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch is a natural deodorizer that can be used to eliminate noxious ammonia odors instead of merely masking them with fragrances. It works through a process of absorption, adsorption, and cation exchange. AmmoSorb™ is negatively charged whereas ammonia rides on positively charged particles. As a result, AmmoSorb™ draws in ammonia odors like a strong magnet. Thereafter, it traps, neutralizes, and encapsulates ammonia without smelly cover-ups. Furthermore, it can trap ammonium ions, NH4+, in the liquid phase through a process of ion exchange thus reducing the concentration of ammonia, NH3. The molecular structure of AmmoSorb™ is made up of a lattice structure arranged to form a honeycomb framework of billions of interconnecting channels. This gives AmmoSorb™ an enormous surface area that is larger than several football fields. The latter enables AmmoSorb™ to adsorb phenomenal amounts of ammonia odors and work for months.

Environmentally Friendly

The AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch is non-toxic, safe, non-hazardous, natural, non-scented, and non-caustic. It is an ideal environmentally friendly solution for eliminating ammonia odors without adding pollutants to the air and improving indoor air quality. AmmoSorb™ does not contain chemical additives and is especially beneficial for those suffering from chemical sensitivity. As an added benefit, depleted AmmoSorb™ media can be recycled and reused as a slow release nitrogen fertilizer in planting areas such as gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil, and planting beds with thorough watering.

Applications

AmmoSorb™ can be effectively used by all types of agricultural, industrial, and commercial facilities to eliminate ammonia odors. Typical applications include:
Ammonia spills, animal hospitals, animal stalls, animal waste, aquariums, box cars, chemical plants, chemical storage areas, compost, food processing areas, fish hatcheries, health clubs, hotels, kennels, laboratories, litter boxes, locker rooms, manufacturing facilities, manure, nursing homes, offices, urine accidents, pet areas, photography, ponds, printing, reprography, safety cabinets, salons, shipping containers, transportation vehicles, veterinarians, waste containers, water treatment, and any other area with ammonia odor problems.

Directions

For a breath of fresh air, simply remove the plastic cover, place AmmoSorb™ pouches in the area to treated, and smell the difference. Use one or more pouches for every 300 square feet. This product will function most efficiently in an enclosed area with good air circulation. To obtain the best results, remove the odor sources (e.g. open containers and spills) and clean the affected area prior to treating with AmmoSorb™. For extra effectiveness, this product may be used in conjunction with AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Granules.

Rejuvenating, Reusing & Recycling

The AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch may be reused repeatedly after periodically rejuvenating them. Rejuvenate the pouches weekly until a noticeable decrease in odor is detected. Thereafter, rejuvenate them every 3-4 months or when odor levels increase. To rejuvenate, simply place in direct sunlight for a day and reuse.

The number of times AmmoSorb™ can be rejuvenated and its actual life span will depend on the odor concentrations, temperature, humidity and velocity of air flow it is exposed to. Replace the pouches every 3-4 months or when rejuvenation eventually fails to work.

For extra effectiveness, soak the AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch in a 10% sodium chloride solution (5 oz. table salt/50 oz. water) for 20 hours with occasional agitation, rinse in water and air dry BEFORE placing in the sun for a day. This is a little bit more work but will enhance the effectiveness of the rejuvenated AmmoSorb™ pouches when reused. Sodium chloride is commonly known as table salt.

AmmoSorb™ odor control media that has ONLY been exposed to ammonia can be recycled by removing this material from the pouch and applying to gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil and plant beds with thorough watering. It will act as a slow release fertilizer and help retain soil moisture.

Disposal

The unused AmmoSorb™ Ammonia Removal Pouch is non-hazardous and environmentally safe. Providing it has only been exposed to ammonia, the depleted AmmoSorb™ granules can be removed from the pouch and recycled a as a slow release nitrogen fertilizer in planting areas such as gardens, flower beds, yards, fields, potting soil, and plant beds with thorough watering. However, if AmmoSorb™ has been exposed to hazardous or toxic substances it should be disposed according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
